Bible Passage: Esther 1–2
Memory Verse: Proverbs 3:5-6
Bible Truth
God had a plan for Esther.

Lesson Introduction:
Today’s Story is fit for a queen! Today we are going to learn how we can trust God, even when life is confusing. He has a plan that is good and right. His way is best.

Today’s object is the Megillah. The word Megillah comes from the Hebrew word for ‘scroll.’ When people talk about ‘the Megillah,’ they are usually referring to a scroll that has the Book of Esther written on it. It is usually read or chanted on the eve of the Jewish festival of Purim. Let see what Joel has to say about part of Esther’s incredible story.

Watch Joel’s video, and then continue below!

Discuss these questions together as a family:

What was your favorite outfit that Joel tried on?
What would you wear to meet a king?
Whose plan was for Esther to be the new queen?

Read Esther 2 together as a family. If you have younger children who are struggling to pay attention or understand, try telling the Bible story in your own words or use the Bible Story Picture below.

What do we know about Esther before she became queen?” (Her parents had died and Mordecai, her cousin, had adopted her; she was Jewish.)The Bible gives us so many details about Esther. Another thing about her is that she just seems to be a normal girl, but what happens to her? Reread Esther 2: 16-18. The king thought Esther was the most beautiful woman of all the women he saw, so he made her his queen and gave her the royal crown. Then they threw a huge party to celebrate Esther! Even at this point in Esther’s life, she did not know how important it was going to be for her to be queen, but God was laying the foundation for her to do something really big for His people. God had a plan for Esther. Even though she was in the middle of the plan when she became queen, she still did not know how big God’s purpose was for her. But one day she would!

Use these questions for more Bible study together as a family!

  4. Whom did the king choose as his new queen? (Esther, Esther 2:17)
  5. What did Mordecai overhear while he was sitting near the King’s Gate? (Two men were planning to kill the king, Esther 2:21-22)
