Bible Passage: Jeremiah 36
Memory Verse: Matthew 24:35 (NIV)
Bible Truth: God’s Word cannot be destroyed

Lesson Introduction:
Our journey through the book of Jeremiah has shown us it isn’t always easy to be faithful to the Lord. Sometimes God will ask us to do things that are not fun. We can trust that God has a reason for wanting us to do difficult things. Jeremiah was given a challenging task. He presented God’s message to people who didn’t want to hear it. In today’s lesson, we’ll see a king attempt to destroy God’s message. I guess he didn’t know God is more powerful than a king!

After the video, read Jeremiah 36 together and work together on the questions. We like to make it into a game!

  1. Who wrote down the message Jeremiah shared from God? (Baruch, Jeremiah 36:4)
  2. Who took the scroll to the temple—Jeremiah or Baruch? (Baruch, Jeremiah 36:5-6)
  3. What did the official tell Jeremiah and Baruch to do while they read the scroll to the king? (Hide, Jeremiah 36:19)
  4. Who did the king send to bring and read the scroll to him? (Jehudi, Jeremiah 36:21)
  5. Where was the king when Jehudi read the scroll to him? (By a warm fire, Jeremiah 36:22)
  6. How did King Jehoiakim respond when he heard God’s message? (He cut it up and threw it in the fire, Jeremiah 36:23)
  7. What did King Jehoiakim want to happen to Jeremiah and Baruch as a punishment? (To be arrested, Jeremiah 36:26)
  8. What did God tell Jeremiah to do after the king burned the scroll? (To write it all again on another scroll, Jeremiah 36:28)
  9. How would God punish King Jehoiakim for ignoring His message and burning the scroll? (No one in his family would ever be king again, Jeremiah 36:30)
