Jeremiah 29:11 is the Christian graduation verse, printed on cards, gifts, and prayer plaques: “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you.” Many assume this means God guarantees a great career, comfortable life, and our personal dreams fulfilled, especially for hardworking graduates stepping into the future. But in context, this promise was spoken to exiles in Babylon, people who had lost their homeland and were told by God to settle down and live faithfully in a hostile place for 70 years.
