Bible Passage: 1 John
Memory Verse: 1 John 4:9
Bible Truth
God showed us His love when He sent Jesus to pay for our sin.

Lesson Introduction:
Today, we are going to learn about how great God’s love is for us and how we should show love to others!

Our object is a picture of a scribe’s reed and ink. It is possible that John used something like this to write his letter to the people. Information was more difficult to share when the Bible was being written. It took more effort, and the materials were not as easy to use as ours are, today. Imagine what it must have been like when John was writing this letter. John wanted to encourage believers to live out a true faith in relationship with Jesus. Our object is a great reminder that God showed us His love when He sent Jesus to pay for our sin. God is love and He wants us to love one another. Let’s learn more! Watch Joel’s video and then continue below!

Discuss these questions together as a family:

What location did Joel visit today?
Who did he meet there?
Where did Isaac go on his trip? Why did he go?
How can we tell other people about the love of Jesus?

John teaches us so many wonderful things about Jesus! Read 1 John 1:1-4; 2:1,14-15 together as a family.  In these verses John reminded the Christians that he heard, saw, and touched Jesus. We can’t see Jesus with our eyes, but we can see God working in our lives every day. We can be reminded that Jesus has life that continues forever. With Jesus, God can help us to be strong because He is always with us. We know love because Jesus gave His life for us. If we have plenty and see someone in need and do not help them, we are not showing God’s love is in us. We should love not only through our words but also through our actions! . Use the story picture at the bottom to talk more about John’s letter.
