Submit a question below and we will respond with an answer as soon as posisble.

frequently asked questions about the sale of the wantagh parsonage

Why would we sell the parsonage?
1. After working with the Vanderbloemen search group and despite high real estate prices of Long Island, the benefit of a parsonage is not desired by most pastors. Most desire the ability to manage a house as they see fit and the ability to build home equity in a traditional manner.

2. We are called to minster and reach the lost, not maintain residential housing. Owning residential property draws resources away from overseeing the church and operating as a landlord for pastors can often be inefficient and a source of potential discord.

3. Proceeds of the proposed sale are aligned with the vision of the Faith To Finish & Prepare campaign, which will allow the church to be debt free in 2027.

4. Pastor Steve and Laura expressed their desire to purchase the property.
How was the sale price determined?
The offer price of $775,000 was determined by receiving 3 appraisals from licensed real estate agents of $815k, $815k and $820k.  The resulting average price is $816k.  Because this would be a direct sale without a real estate agent, the final offer price of $775,000 reflects the market price less a 5% commission that would have been paid to an agent if we had listed the property for public sale.
Who is going to buy the parsonage?
Pastor Steve Kinsel and his wife Laura currently reside in the parsonage, and will be purchasing the property.
What are we going to do with the money from the sale?
Proceeds of the proposed sale will go into the Faith To Finish & Prepare fund. This aligns with the plan Pastor Scott and the Elder Board set in place for the Faith To Finish & Prepare campaign, which will allow the church to be debt free in 2027.
When is the scheduled closing date?
An agreement is in place, but the closing date will not be scheduled until the proposed sale ballot is approved by the Membership of Living Faith Christian Church.
